I must be missing something but I am unable to leave a comment on the sweepstakes page. All I see is a box at the bottom that says “What Do You Think About This Game?” But I have no option to enter a comment too bad, I really liked this game and I have played it on the Xbox wouldn’t mind seeing it for once in all it’s glory on the PC

@RedFox: Yes, pricing structure is a big issue. I was thinking that with global reach and removed phyiscal boundaries pricing would become globally unified, too. But in reality it seems to follow the rules physical pricing differences between countries and continents.

GOG is great and a pioneer not only with pricing. Still hoping for other shops to follow…

@Bonus As I said, Green Man Gaming already has a trade-in system in place. I also saw it at some other Swedish shop. I’m pretty sure that the publishers receive a kickback from this trade-in.

True, maintaining a full service with unlimited downloads, autopatching certainly costs money, too. However, most shops don’t provide this kind of service. Rather you can simply download the game. Sometimes, even with download restrictions. With storage costs falling by the month those costs for sure are not higher than that needed for global distribution of physical boxes.

There is absolutely no way publishers are going to allow their game key codes to be “traded in” unless they can get their cut of it, especially when speaking of new games. If any company tries this with newer games on a broad level they will have big publishers shutting them out of new games.

You point out that digital games are the same price as the physical ones and you act like this is ridiculous because the publisher is saving money. In what way is maintaining servers and servers of game data saving them money? Also, another reason for the price to be comparable to retail stores is that digital games could be considered a convenience and a service. Then, later in that section you explain exactly why prices aren’t going to drop off any time soon: digital games go on sale much earlier than their retail counterparts.
